What is the UKB?

The United Keetowah Band has been around for less than a century, but they already have a storied history here in Tahlequah.

The UKB is a band of federally recognized Cherokee Native Americans headquartered in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The UKB was initially recognized by federal legislation in 1946 and officially chartered in 1950.

When the UKB was created in 1950, it was done as a federally chartered corporation through an act of Congress – and the main purpose of the UKB was to organize economic efforts for Cherokee peoples, although not all Cherokees consider themselves a member of the UKB
